Newsletter No. 16 | Term 3 Week 7 | Friday 30th August 2024
Prayer
A prayer for all the candidates preparing for Eucharist and Confirmation.
Holy Spirit, you are the giver of many gifts which God wants to give me very personally. Open my heart and my mind as I prepare for Confirmation. Help me to know that you are confirming all the goodness that I am, and all the goodness that I will become. Increase my desire to know and follow Jesus as his disciple with a grateful and courageous heart.
Amen.
Principal's Message
Leanne is currently on Long Service until the start of Term 4.
A Message from Mandy
Welcome to Week 7!
Last Friday we celebrated Book Week and it was a resounding success for our school. I would like to thank all the staff for the way they worked together to create a rich and fun day for our students. Everyone played a part in the smooth running of the event. We are blessed to have such a passionate and collaborative team!
The concerts at Trinity were a wonderful experience for St. Brendan’s. The pure joy and happiness that was displayed on their beautiful faces was gold.
I must mention Cuba and his awesome dance moves. He had the Trinity students enthralled and I heard several students say to him you are so cool! He will certainly remember his birthday this year.
We look forward to our Wattle Day Excursion and Bush Excursion that are coming up later this term. We thank Alice for preparing these events for us and giving the children such rich and engaging opportunities to commune with nature.
Alice has also sourced a free excursion to Schultz Dairy in Timboon. This ties in nicely with our Outdoor Learning and Cows Create Careers. The children will go on a walking tour and learn about cheese making and organic practices and produce. This also exposes the children to sustainable farming options.
I would like to thank Ken Coates for his assistance with our gate. It was broken and Ken kindly helped me with purchasing a new lock and generously installed it for us. We appreciate your willingness to help out Ken!
Warm wishes,
Mandy

Prep/1 Classroom
Welcome to Week 7!
Book Week last week was a huge sucess - Thanks to all families and students for their enthusiasm and excitment. The costumes were phenomenal. Similarly, our excursion to Trinity College to see the Giggle Concert was lots of fun.
Religion: Our theme for Religion has been 'kindness'. Over the last week, we have been considering the Bible passage, 'Jesus Blesses the Children'. The students have really enjoyed the opportunity to listen to the story and act it out, We then identified the ways that Jesus shows kindness and compassion within the story.
Integrated Curriculum: Within Integrated Curriculum, our theme is 'Discovery'. This week we have been learning about the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. Over the next few weeks we will explore some scientific ideas.
We will learn about the properties of different materials and participate in the following activities:
-Making play dough and moulding a play dough goat
-Building an aluminium foil boat that can carry a play dough goat
-Reusing an old pillowcase and a stickto make a bag
-Building a bridge that can cross an A3 river

2/3/4 Classroom News
Welcome to Week 7 of Term 3!
We had a fantastic Book Week celebration last week. The parade was excellent and the children really enjoyed the activities and the concert at Trinity. It was wonderful to see our students lead the way with dancing and all of St Brendan's hit the dance floor. It was pretty impressive as the rest of the audience were all Trinity students.
Homework this wek will be revision of our currrent spelling words and activited related to basic mathematical concepts.
Religious Education: We have been unpacking the Scripture from Matthew 7:12
A Very Important Rule: "Do for others what you would want them to do for you. This is the meaning of the Law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets."
The children have discussed what this means to them and how it impacts the world around us. We have also looked at the Islam religion and the similarities and differences to Catholicism.
Intergrated Curriculum: We have been contruscting balloon powered cars and not having total success! It has been great to see students use problem solving skills, and offereing alternative solutions and ideas on how to imporve the experiement. Part of conducting experiments is undersanding there is a chance of it not working out. The class have been brainstorming ways we could fix it or change it in the future. I have been really impressed!
The star of the Week award goes to Ruby Wilson. Congratulations on your effort!
Kind Regards,

Some of our students are currently preparing for the Sacraments of Eucharist(Communion) and Confirmation.
We wish them all the best as they journey in faith to receive these sacraments.
Communion is not merely a religious custom but a profound expression of faith and unity within the Christian community. It is a tangible representation of the Last Supper, the final meal that Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion. This solemn occasion is commemorated through the act of sharing bread and wine, symbolizing the body and blood of Jesus Christ, respectively. The act of partaking in communion is a deeply spiritual experience for believers, as it fosters a sense of closeness to God and reaffirms their commitment to the teachings of Jesus.
Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.
