Principal's Message

It was certainly a busy and productive week here at St Brendan’s.
We hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful long weekend and perhaps managed to back a winner in the Melbourne Cup!
Last week, I had the pleasure of attending a Diocesan Leadership Gathering in Horsham. It was a valuable opportunity to network with other principals and share insights. More than anything, it was affirming to realize just how lucky we are to lead and serve the wonderful community here in Coragulac.
Our swimming program has successfully commenced, and the initial feedback is fantastic! It’s amazing to see the progress our students are making already compared to the start of the year. Thank you to all staff for ensuring these sessions run smoothly and safely.
Bringing the focus back to student safety, our Prep to Year 2 students were fortunate enough to attend a valuable Bravehearts presentation at St Mary's today. These sessions are incredibly important for helping our youngest students learn about personal safety in an age-appropriate way.
We wish Mia Blackburn a safe trip and a rewarding experience on her study tour to the Solomon Islands! We look forward to seeing you back in Week 8.
We also extend our heartfelt condolences to Allira Kluver and her family following the sad passing of her Grandmother last week.
We have a busy few weeks ahead as we finalize planning for 2026. Thank you for your continued support as we head toward the end of the school year.
Warm regards,
Gerard Douglas

Building Project
We are excited to share a key milestone in our building project! We have now reached the crucial tender stage, where we invite building contractors to submit their bids to complete the work.
As part of this formal process, we hosted a mandatory site inspection for all prospective tenderers today.
This inspection allows the builders to assess the site conditions and understand the scope of the project before submitting their final costs. We look forward to moving forward quickly once the tenders have been received and approved by DOBCEL.
We will continue to keep you informed as this exciting project progresses

School Advisory Council
Our next scheduled School Advisory Committee Meeting will be held on Monday, November 10th, at 7:00 PM. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Tissues
A call out for tissues! If you're able to donate a box of tissues to the school, it would be very much appreciated.
Wellbeing
In this edition of SchoolTV - BODY IMAGE
Kids today are more obsessed with their body image than those in past generations. This is partially influenced by the media and their social connectivity. Encouraging kids to have a healthy body image in childhood, can lay the foundations for good physical and mental health later in life.
A recent study highlighted that body image is one of the top three concerns for Australian youth. Over half of girls in high schools have tried to lose weight. One-third of teenage boys wanted to be thinner and another third wanted to be larger. Children need to understand that their body shape and size is not a reflection of their health or success. Parents and schools need to work together to help kids understand that everyone is born with their own ‘body-suit’.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn how to encourage their child to have a positive body image and why it is so important to their mental health.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Enrolments
2026 Foundation enrolments are now open. We have upscaled our Social Media output to spread the word about our wonderful school. It has been really positive to see people responding positively to the advertisements.
A reminder that one of the best ways to advertise a school is by word of mouth. Spread the word!

Prep/1 Classroom

What an exciting week of learning and discovery we've had!
Our students absolutely loved attending the Bravehearts presentation at St Mary's today. It was a wonderful and age-appropriate way to help them learn about personal safety.
In Mathematics, we have been busy exploring the concepts of measurement. The students have been hands-on, comparing and ordering objects by length, making Maths both practical and fun!
Finally, our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) lessons have focused on challenges, with the students eagerly building strong bridges. It was fantastic to see their problem-solving skills and teamwork in action as they tested the strength of their amazing designs!

2/3/4 Classroom News

Welcome to Week 5!
I hope you all enjoyed having Monday and Tuesday off this week. It was a perfect opportunity to recharge the batteries to prepare ourselves for an 11 week term!
We are excited, and starting to get organised for our annual Mission Day on Thursday 20th November. The children have been asked to check with their parents to see if what they want to do, alligns with what parents think is acceptable. If you have any questions relating to this, please contact me.
Religious Education: This week we are looking at the Liturgical Calendar of the Catholic Church. The last Sunday of November is the beginning of the new year in the Catholic Church. It marks the official start of the liturgical year.
Literacy: Our phonics focus is the 'v' sound for Year 2's (above, savvy, have, vest, heavy, very, invite, live, river, shiver) and the 'd' sound as in daddy, dagger, walked, cuddled, dabble, called, ladder, danger, floated, and puddle for the Year 3's and 4's.
Numeracy: This week we are revising addition stratergies. The Year 2's are looking at building to the next 10 and 2 digit addition, the Year 3's are revisiting adding 2 and 3 digit numbers, and the Year 4's are revising the addition of 4 numbers.
The Star of the Week award goes to Finlay Pigdon. Congratulations on your excellent effort!
Kind Regards,
Mandy Sutherland

5/6 Classroom News

It's been a busy and engaging period of learning for our 5/6 students!
We have been actively preparing for our upcoming Mission Day, dedicating time to learning about its purpose and importance within our community.
In addition to our mission focus, we have been exploring civics and citizenship by learning the foundations of democracy. The students have enjoyed discussions about how decisions are made and the importance of having a voice.
Finally, last week, we were fortunate to engage in a valuable Health class with Sandra Darwin, where the students learned about important aspects of health and physical development. Thank you to Sandra for sharing her expertise with our classes
